Union City Continues Efforts to Protect Drinking Water
The source of Union City’s drinking water is groundwater produced from wells located within the community. To help protect the underground aquifer and the water supply wells from contamination, the City of Union City has developed a Wellhead Protection Plan, which was approved by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on August 31, 2001. The Local Planning Team meets annually to update the Plan and implement management strategies to help protect our drinking water sources. The Wellhead Protection Local Planning Team held its annual meeting on June 21, 2018. The Wellhead Protection Program focuses on public awareness, education, spill prevention, and reporting. A complete copy of the Wellhead Protection Plan and educational materials are available for public viewing at the City Building, located at 105 North Columbia Street, Union City, Indiana.
